16-year-old boy who led deputies on car pursuit Saturday night crashed car into bridge pillar

A 16-year-old boy driving a stolen Ford Escort sustained what appear to be non life-threatening injuries Saturday night after crashing that car into a bridge pillar on Cole Road near Barrister Drive.

The boy, who was later determined to be a runaway, was in the Ford Escort by himself. The car was badly damaged.

The crash ended a brief vehicle pursuit that began in the Overland and Five Mile roads neighborhood just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

A patrol deputy on Overland Road noticed a Ford Escort in front of him weave in-and-out of the lane and switch lanes without a signal just after 8:20 p.m. Saturday.

The deputy turned on the overhead lights of his patrol car and attempted to pull the Escort over on Overland Road near Goldking Way. At that point, the driver took off, driving in speeds in excess of 80 mph down Overland Road and going through red lights.

The Escort then went north on Cole Road. A patrol deputy who heard what was going on deployed spike-strips at the Barrister Drive/Cole Road intersection as the Escort was headed his way. The teen lost control of the car as he drove around the spike strips and drove it into a concrete pillar. The car hit the pillar and spun out.

No other vehicles were involved. Paramedics arrived and transported the teen to a local hospital for treatment.

The ACSO is recommending the Ada County Juvenile Prosecutor’s office charge the teen with a felony eluding and theft charges in connection with the case.
